Trek to South Bend

So we actually left Utah for a different reason then a vacation. To make the whole thing a little easier on our wallet we decided rent a larger truck and share it with David Janetski, another BYU student who was going to Notre Dame. (We rented from Penske and were very pleased with the service they provided) We took a day to pack our stuff in and then passed it off to him so he could do the same. We were able to get everything to fit in the truck besides their couch. We left on Saturday the 12th of August and drove our massive truck for 3 days across the country and arrived in South Bend late Monday Afternoon.

During our travel east we did hit a major storm that forced us to pull of the road and wait it out. The rain/hail was so heavy we couldn't see a thing and my car was hydroplaning to where we couldn't keep up with the heavier moving tuck Dave was driving at the time. I guess we could have guessed how bad the storm was by how many truckers were pulled off the side of the road and taking cover under overpasses. Other then the storm we had a problem free move. Even our fish made the trip. We lost less then 10 fish. (10 of the 300 :-P) It was just too bad our truck only got 6 mpg with gas prices well into the $3 range.

When we arrived the South Bend Ward had gotten about 7 guys together to help us unload the truck. They were life savers and I don't think we could have done it without them. We had the truck unpacked at both places within a couple hours. The other challenge we had was getting all of our stuff to fit in our apartment. The place was smaller then we expected it to be but at least we are on the ground floor. After a lot of shifting and stacking things in corners we were able to get everything to fit. We didn't want to unpack everything because we are hoping to get a home of our own soon and didn't want to have to re-pack everything again. The apartment is considered University housing but is about a mile away from campus. The building we are in has 8 apartments in it.

South Bend has been better then expected. It is a beautiful area and the people have been very nice. It has been very weird to have such a large sky and horizon here. The mountains will surely be missed. We have been very happy with the weather so far as well. (lets see if I still say that 4 months from now)

That be a lot of boxes, are you just going to leave them like that until you find a place? Welcome to the East!

Hey, did you guys tell your Mom about the terrible storm? It's a good thing I have a bad memory. I'm glad you are both safe - are you still?
