Hawaii Travel Log
Hawaii was a blast! It was a bad time to leave since I should be finishing up my thesis, but it was the fun thing to do. I thought I'd give you a bit of a travel log with some cool pics taken by Kevin.
O'ahu
We went to the Bishop Museum and got to experience a volcano up close!
We enjoyed a day at the beach at beautiful Hanauma Bay, complete with tropical fish, sea turtles, and (of course) sunburns. Kevin and I snorkeled for the first time; I'm not a good swimmer so I made Kevin pull me around the bay on a boogie board. What a good guy!
We spent Mother's Day with Jason and Michelle's wonderful family (and had great food!) and did a little sight seeing. We met up with Robin at the Laie temple.
Kevin and I spent a day at Pearl Harbor and got a sobering review of history. We also explored the great battleship Missouri. Then it was off to the Big Island!
The Big Island
We stayed in Kona and did some local sight seeing. We drove down the coast and visited some great beaches and historical sights. A real gem was the Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, the place of refuge where defeated warriors or those who broke the kapu could seek sanctuary. We also went to the southernmost point in the United States. Thrilling! We had a great view of the ocean and sunsets from our hotel.
Driving to Hilo, we did more sight seeing and some hiking. The Pololu Beach is the most beautiful beach we'd ever seen. We also stopped at Akaka Falls, which drops an amazing 420 feet.
In Hilo, we stopped at Rainbow Falls and the Boiling Pots. Then it was on to Volcano National Park for some great hikes through desolate landscapes and lush rainforests. From there it was back to O'ahu.
O'ahu
Back on O'ahu, we got a quick tour of the Dole Plantation and North Shore. We also went to the Polynesian Culture Center where Kevin was chosen at the Tonga Village to play the drums. He rocked! I have video of it, but I'm not sure how to post it...yet. We lucked out that night at the PCC; it was also the final round of the World Fire Knife Championship. The three finalists performed during the night show intermission and the winner was announced after. Incredible! As our final sight seeing act, we visited the Valley of the Temples. Then back home!
Thank you to all our friends for their help and hospitality! We had a great trip and tons of fun! Check back at Kevin's earlier slideshow. He'll post more pictures of Hawaii. Mahalo and Aloha!!

Awesome pictures Becky. Makes me want to go on vacation! But we're glad to have you back. Utah's just not the same without you. :) We'll have to hang out before you make your big move!
